HARRISONBURG, Va. – Longwood University posted a final-round of 277 Tuesday in men’s golf for a 54-hole school-record score of 852 (291-284-277) to finish 10th among 12 teams at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg. George Mason University won the event with its 836 (279-282-275) total at the 6,517-yard, par 71 Lakeview Golf Course. The Lancers will compete again next week, October 17-18, at the Liberty Invitational in Amherst at the Poplar Grove Golf Club.
At JMU, Longwood was led by sophomore Mark Coradi/Chesapeake (Great Bridge) with his final-round 64, a new school-record, to finish at 209 (73-72-64) while placing in a 12th-place tie among the 67 collegiate golfers. Coradi’s career-best for 54-holes is also the second-best effort in school history as he was followed by junior Chris Shuford/Fredericksburg (Colonial Forge) (72-68-72--212, t-20th), sophomore John Rosenstock/Midlothian (Midlothian) (71-73-71--215, t-33rd), along with freshmen Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) (75-71-70--216, t-35th) and Allain Blanchard/Williamsburg (Jamestown) (76-73-74--223, 59th).
Shuford’s score was a season-best for 54-holes, while both Buhrman and Blanchard’s totals were new collegiate-bests for 54-holes. Longwood’s team score for 18-holes (277) tied the school-record as well.
