GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina scored two goals in the second half to earn a 2-0 decision over Longwood University in men’s soccer Sunday afternoon at Williams Arena in Greenville, N.C.. The Lancers (0-3) will play again Friday, September 10, at Winthrop.
Both Longwood and East Carolina (1-1) had five shots in the first half but neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Pirates finally broke the scoreless tie at the 58:29 mark of the second half when senior Terron Amos scored on a breakaway. East Carolina added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when the Pirates were awarded a penalty kick. Pirate senior Michael Logan placed the shot past Longwood goalkeeper Matt VanOekel/Chesapeake, Va. (Great Bridge) for the 2-0 advantage.
Longwood finished the match with eight shots, including two on goal, while East Carolina tallied 15 shots, four of which were on goal.
