Women's Cross Country Places 6th At Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University totaled 176 points to finish sixth among 10 teams at the Festival in the Fields women’s cross country meet hosted by Virginia Tech Saturday in Blacksburg. The host Hokies won the event with their 34-point total. The Lancers will compete again September 18 at the University of Virginia’s Invitational.

At Virginia Tech, Longwood was led by freshman standout Kristin Novara/Winchester (Millbrook) who finished 26th overall among 79 runners with her school-record time of 16:20 in the 4K (2.5 mile) race won in 14:45. Novara was followed by seniors Jessica Walton/Williamsburg (Jamestown) (16:50, 32nd), Tiffany Denby/Charlottesville (Monticello) (17:01, 38th), and Lynette Robinson/Mineral (Louisa Co.) (17:53, 51st), along with freshman Brittany Wyman/Mosely (Clover Hill) (18:51, 60th).

Others running for the Lancers included freshmen Lisa Wade/Oakland, Md. (Southern Garrett) (18:54, 61st) and Ashley Schoenwetter/Reston (South Lakes) (19:25, 64th), as well as sophomore Caitlin Moore/Manassas (Manassas) (19:38, 67th).
