BOX SCORE
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Visiting Campbell University took a 1-0 collegiate women’s soccer decision past Longwood University Thursday night at Lancer Field. The Camels got the win with an own-goal late in the match at 71:27 to improve to 5-1-3 overall. Longwood is now 1-9, and will play again this Saturday, October 2, hosting Liberty University at Lancer Field in Farmville beginning at 2 p.m..
The closely-played match was deadlocked 0-0 at the intermission, and the contest remained tight throughout the second half before the lone goal of the night. The Lancers did have a couple of late scoring opportunities to tie the game again, but could not capitalize.
Campbell did take a narrow 8-6 edge in shot attempts, and had a 3-2 advantage on corner-kicks. Susan Persson led the Camels with three shots, while Taddonio and Danielle Mandela each had two attempts. Sophomore Kelsie Bradberry/Richmond (Monacan) led Longwood with three shots, while freshman keeper Anne Whitmore/Charlottesville (Western Albemarle) made two saves for the Lancers. CU keeper Erin Switalski had three saves for the visitors.
