LORETTO, Pa. -- Longwood University earned a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over host St. Francis in a field hockey match Saturday morning in Loretto, Pa.. The Lancers (2-6) got the game-winning goal from junior Julie Price/Stafford (North Stafford), who scored her first goal of the season 13:27 into the second half. Price, who received the ball in front of the cage, slipped but was able to get back up and lift a shot past Red Flash goalkeeper Kristen Onto. Longwood will be back in action Sunday, September 26 when they face Robert Morris. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m..
The Red Flash (0-8) came out strong taking a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the contest. Erin Maguire gave St. Francis the early 1-0 advantage when she scored on an assist by Erin Davis at the 1:59 mark of the game. Davis scored the second goal less than six minutes later on a rebound of her own shot.
The Lancers cut the lead to 2-1 when senior Lorrie Watts/Fredericksburg (Stafford) scored on an assist by junior Sarah Hitchings/Virginia Beach (Kempsville) at the 19:28 mark of the first stanza. Longwood then knotted the score at 2-2 with 11:22 remaining in the half on a goal by freshman Cherie Ratte/Virginia Beach (Kempsville); her first collegiate goal.
Senior goalkeeper Julie Patterson/Esmont (Monticello) finished the game with 12 saves for Longwood, while Onto made eight.
