HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison took a 6-0 decision past visiting Longwood University in a field hockey match Wednesday evening in Harrisonburg. The Dukes (1-5) scored five of their six goals in the second half to earn the victory. The Lancers (1-4) will play again this Saturday, September 18 when they host Catawba at Barlow Field. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m..
Longwood kept James Madison scoreless for the majority of the first half until the Dukes scored with 1:29 remaining in the half. Freshman Amy DeCecco sent the ball into the circle to senior Heidi Beck, who controlled the pass, got past her defender and hit a 13-yard shot into the goal.
James Madison pushed its lead to 2-0 early in the second stanza, scoring a goal less than three minutes into the half. The Dukes scored their third goal after senior Lindsay Coffman tallied her first of two goals on the night. Coffman was able to put away a rebound of a shot by Beck that was first saved by Longwood senior goalkeeper Julie Patterson/Esmont (Monticello). JMU rounded out its scoring off of two penalty corners and on a redirect of a cross to earn the 6-0 win.
Patterson finished the match with seven saves, while Lori Amico, of James Madison, stopped two shots.
