Women's Tennis Defeats NCAA Division I Radford 6-1

Senior Amber Miller Earns Wins In Singles & Doubles Against Highlanders

RADFORD, Va. -- Longwood University took a 6-1 women's collegiate tennis decision at NCAA Division I Radford University Saturday in Radford.  The Lancers have finished their 2004 season with a final record of 10-5.  The originally-scheduled season finale against Norfolk State University on Sunday (April 11) in Farmville has been canceled.

At Radford (3-11), Longwood won five singles, and two of three doubles contests during
the road match.  In singles, freshman Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mseota) won at #1 (6-1, 6-3), as did seniors Danielle Hess/Bel Air, Md. (Bel Air) at #2 (6-4, 6-2) and Amber Miller/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) at #4 (6-4, 5-7, 10-5), freshman Nancy Hott/Fairfax (W.T. Woodson) at #5 (6-0, 6-0), and senior Laura Whitehurst/Chesapeake (Western Branch) at #6 (6-0, 6-1). In doubles, Hess and freshman Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) won at #1 (8-3), as did Miller and Whitehurst at #3 (8-5).
