FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 5-2 men’s collegiate tennis decision to visiting NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb Friday at the Lancer Courts. The Lancers are now 2-3 and will play again Saturday, March 20, at Division III Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg.
Against Gardner-Webb, Longwood won two of six singles pairings during the home match. In singles, junior Chris Newman/Chesapeake (Hickory) won at #1 (6-2, 6-1), as did freshman Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) at #2 (7-6, 5-7, 6-3). In doubles, the Lancers did get a win at #2 from Patnikov and senior Garrett Green/Fredericksburg (Stafford) at #2 (8-5), but the Bulldogs won the other two doubles contests for the team point.
