RICHMOND, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 4-0 collegiate women’s soccer decision at Virginia Commonwealth University Saturday night in Richmond. The Lancers saw their record fall to 2-11 overall, while the host Rams improved to 10-3. Longwood will play again this Tuesday, October 12, at Virginia Military Institute beginning at 4 p.m. in Lexington.
VCU led just 1-0 at the intermission on a goal from Solfrid Andersen at 14:30, assisted by Kasey Sandvig, before adding three goals in the second half to secure the victory. The Rams received two goals from Jen Parsons at 55:20 and 81:03, while Sandra Anger added the other goal on a penalty-kick at 65:04. Hedda Gardsjord assisted on Parsons’ first goal, and Katie MacDougall assisted on the final tally.
VCU finished the contest with an 18-1 advantage in shots, and a 5-1 edge on corner-kicks. Freshman Kristina Reed/Spotsylvania (Chancellor) had Longwood’s lone shot, while sophomore keeper Heather Storrie/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) went the distance in front of the net for the Lancers with nine saves. Lauren Hardison (69:51, 0, 0) and Emily Niman (20:09, 0, 0) split time in goal for the Rams.
