ORLANDO, Fla. -- Longwood University totaled 413 points to finish 14th among 32 teams at the 9th Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic women’s race Saturday in Florida. The University of Florida won the event with its 29 points. The Lancers will compete again next Saturday, October 16, at the William and Mary/Tribe Open in Williamsburg.
At Disney, Longwood was led by senior standout Jessica Walton/Williamsburg (Jamestown) with her school-record time of 19:08 in the 5K (3.1 mile) race to finish 34th. Walton was followed by classmates Lynette Robinson/Mineral (Louisa Co.) (19:46, 67th) and Tiffany Denby/Charlottesville (Monticello) (time not available, 84th), along with freshmen Kristin Novara/Winchester (Millbrook) (20:47) and Ashley Schoenwetter/Reston (South Lakes) (22:27). The efforts by Walton, Robinson, and Schoenwetter were all personal-best times as well.
Also running for the Lancers were sophomore Caitlin Moore/Manassas (Manassas) (23:35) and freshman Lisa Wade/Mt. Lake Park, Md. (Southern Garrett) (DNF, injury).
Complete team and Longwood individual results were not available from the event.
