Men's Soccer Drops 4-2 Decision At High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University took a 4-2 decision past visiting Longwood University in a men’s soccer match this evening. Chris Archer of High Point scored two goals 18 seconds apart to help lift the Panthers to the victory. Longwood (0-11) will play again Sunday, October 10 when they host Mount St. Mary’s for their second home match of the season. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.

High Point (5-6) took the 2-0 advantage into halftime off the two goals scored by Archer. Archer scored his first goal on a bicycle kick at the 23:31 mark. He then tallied his second goal 18 seconds later when he finished a cross by Josh Windley. The Panthers pushed their lead to 4-0 in the second half on goals by Windley and Patrick Althoff.

The Lancers scored two late second half goals to cut the final score to 4-2. Senior Stuart Bertsch/Norfolk (Maury) scored his first goal of the season at the 77:14 mark, while junior Leon Malca/Hertzeliya, Israel (Mercer C.C.) tallied his fourth goal of the season with less than four minutes to play in the contest.

High Point held the slight 20-16 advantage in shots, while the Lancers had the 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Matt VanOekel/Chesapeake (Great Bridge) finished the game with six saves, while Chris Michener of High Point made three.
