Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision To UNC Asheville

FARMVILLE, Va. – Visiting UNC Asheville took a 1-0 men’s soccer decision past Longwood University Sunday afternoon at Lancer Field. The Bulldogs got the win with a goal 13 minutes into the first half to improve to 5-9-1 overall. Longwood is now 1-15, and will close out its 2004 campaign when they welcome Mercer to Lancer Field Saturday, November 6. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.

UNC Asheville tallied the lone goal when Daniel Bandoly scored at the 12:37 mark of the contest. Andrew Klerekoper fed a pass up the middle to Bandoly, who took a few touches and placed a shot past freshman goalkeeper Matt VanOekel/Chesapeake (Great Bridge). The Lancers did pressure late in the game and had a couple of scoring opportunities to tie the game, but could not capitalize.

The Bulldogs did take the 15-8 advantage in shot attempts, while the Lancers held the 7-6 edge in corner-kick opportunities. VanOekel made six saves for Longwood, while Ben Saylor and Michael Pereira combined for five saves for UNC Asheville.
