SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford took a 2-1 decision past visiting Longwood University in a men’s soccer match Tuesday evening in South Carolina. Zach Strable scored the game-winning goal for the Terriers with less than 15 minutes to play in the contest. The Lancers (1-14) will be back in action when the welcome UNC Asheville to Lancer Field Sunday, October 31. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
Wofford (3-12-1) jumped out on top 21 minutes into the contest when Tim Mittmann scored an unassisted goal. Longwood scored the equalizer less than nine minutes later on a goal by sophomore Chris Miller/Chesapeake (Hickory); his second of the season.
The Terriers held the slight 13-11 edge in shots, while each team had five corner-kick opportunities. Freshman goalkeeper Matt VanOekel/Chesapeake (Great Bridge) made one save for Longwood, while Russ Sandifer and Joey Taylor combined for four saves for Wofford.
