EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Longwood University earned its fourth win of the season in women’s soccer Tuesday, defeating Mount St. Mary’s 1-0 in Maryland. The Lancers improved to 4-13 with the road victory as freshman Katie Young/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne) tallied her second game-winning goal this season. Longwood will conclude its 2004 campaign this Friday, October 22, hosting Howard University at Lancer Field beginning at 4 p.m. in Farmville during Senior Day.
Young’s decisive goal, her second this year, came in the first half at 17:30 when she finished in front of the net after receiving a nice pass off the right side from sophomore Tiffany Crane/Virginia Beach (Kellam). It was Crane’s team-best third assist this season. Classmate and keeper Heather Storrie/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) went the distance in front of the net with six saves while preserving the shutout -- her first shutout this fall -- and second of her career.
Longwood took a 12-8 advantage in shots, though Mount St. Mary’s had a 7-3 edge in corner-kick opportunities. The Mountaineers split time in goal between Margaret Pyzik (45:00) who made two saves, and Anna Lebo (45:00) who had four saves.
