Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall took a 2-0 decision past visiting Longwood University in a men’s soccer match Sunday afternoon in Huntington W.Va.. The Lancers fell to 1-12 on the season, while the Thundering Herd improved to 7-5-2 overall. Longwood will play again Wednesday, October 20 at the University of Virginia beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Charlottesville.

Longwood battled hard against Marshall as the Herd only led 1-0 at halftime on an unassisted goal by Jarod Dombrowski at 12:01. Both teams had numerous offensive chances in the first stanza, with Marshall taking 10 shots and Longwood having seven.

Just ten minutes into the second period, Karim Boukhemis of Marshall pushed the Thundering Herds lead to 2-0 when he scored his fourth goal of the season. Longwood goalkeeper Matt VanOekel/Chesapeake (Great Bridge) wasn’t able to hold on to a corner kick and Boukhemis capitalized when he rebounded it for a goal.

The Lancers held strong in the second half, registering five shots on goal, including two shots by freshman Elvis Cosic/Richmond (J.R. Tucker).

For the game, Marshall finished with a slight 17-12 edge in shots and an 11-10 advantage in corner-kick opportunities. VanOekel finished the game with eight saves, while Marshall goalkeeper Greg Terhune made six.
