BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- Longwood University took a 2-1 overtime decision past host C.W. Post in a field hockey match Sunday afternoon in Brookville, N.Y.. The visiting Lancers (5-10) scored the game-winning goal 3:33 into overtime when sophomore Katy Lernihan/Fredericksburg (Chancellor) scored her second goal of the season. Longwood will be back in action Sunday, October 24 when it travels into North Carolina for a match against Appalachian State. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m..
The Lancers took an early 1-0 lead when junior Alexis Ramey/Westminster, Calif. (Marina) scored just 6:54 into the contest on an assist by classmate Sarah Hitchings/Virginia Beach (Kempsville). Hitchings took a shot that Ramey deflected into the cage for her fourth goal of the season, and third goal in three games. The Pioneers (2-13) were able to tie the game with sixteen minutes remaining in the contest when Ellen Dimino scored on an assist by Ashlyn Giulianelli.
Longwood took the 13-9 advantage in shots, including seven by Ramey, while C.W. Post held the 9-3 edge in penalty-corner opportunities. Senior goalkeeper Julie Patterson/Esmont (Monticello) finished the day with five saves for the Lancers, while Pam Guernaccini made nine for the Pioneers.
