BOONE, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a 5-0 women’s soccer decision at Appalachian State University Sunday night in North Carolina. The Lancers saw their record fall to 3-13 overall, while the host Mountaineers improved to 8-6. Longwood will play again Tuesday, October 19, at Mount St. Mary’s College beginning at 3 p.m. in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
ASU led 2-0 at the intermission on goals from Dana Murphy at 0:49 and Jennifer Rudy at 34:40. The Mountaineers added three more goals in the second half as Rudy added her second tally at 64:45, followed by goals from Katie Blaylock (71:49) and Caroline Krisel at 80:30.
The hosts finished the contest with a narrow 18-15 advantage in shots, and a 6-4 edge on corner-kicks. Sophomore Anna Gravely/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) led Longwood with six shots, while sophomore keeper Heather Storrie/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) went the distance in front of the net for the Lancers with nine saves. Meany Breland (90:00, 0, 8) also went the distance in goal for ASU.
Following Tuesday’s match at Mount St. Mary’s, Longwood will return home to play its season finale on Friday, October 22, hosting Howard University at Lancer Field beginning at 4 p.m..
