CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Longwood University took a 1-0 women’s collegiate soccer triumph at Queens University of Charlotte Wednesday in North Carolina. The Lancers posted their sixth shutout of the season while winning for the fifth time in six games to improve their record to 6-3-1. The Royals dropped to 5-6-1.
At Queens, freshman Kelsie Bradberry/Richmond (Monacan) scored the game-winning and only goal of the match in the first half -- her second goal of the season -- unassisted. Longwood took a 13-4 advantage in shots against the Royals, while each team had five corner-kicks in a match played during a steady rain. Junior keeper Lindsay Naill/ Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played the entire match in front of the net for the Lancers with four saves to preserve her fifth shutout. Queens keeper Megan Mueller had four saves as well.
Longwood will play again this weekend with road matches in Georgia at Clayton College & State University on Saturday, and at nationally-ranked #2 Kennesaw State University (10-1) on Sunday.
