FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 4-0 women’s collegiate soccer triumph past visiting Pfeiffer University Saturday evening at Lancer Field. The Lancers posted their fifth shutout of the season while winning for the fourth time in five games to improve their record to 5-3-1. The Falcons dropped to 3-7-1. Longwood will play again on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Queens University of Charlotte.
Against Pfeiffer, senior Phoebe Munson/Virginia Beach (Tallwood) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 15:51 of the first half for Longwood, assisted by junior Mikaela Bizer/Annandale (Annandale). Sophomore April Lockley/California, Md. (Leonardtown) scored the second goal at 28:35, assisted by freshman Anna Gravely/ Virginia Beach (Cox) and the Lancers led 2-0 at the intermission. Gravely tallied the third goal at 48:22, assisted by freshman Tiffany Crane/Virginia Beach (Kellam). Munson added her second goal of the match at 55:40 for the final margin of victory. Munson’s two goals give her 43 total in her career, just one short of the school-record (Erin Hirschi, 44).
Longwood took a 14-3 advantage in shots against Pfeiffer, and a 7-1 edge in corner-kicks. Junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played the first 66:18 in front of the net for the Lancers with two saves, while freshman keeper Nicole Bossieux/Mechanicsville (Atlee) saw her first collegiate action over the final 23:42. The Falcons split time in goal between Mary Kathryn Mason (2) and Amber Codispoti (3) who combined for five saves.
