BOX SCORE

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Longwood University men’s soccer team lost its first game of the Old Dominion/Stihl Soccer Classic this afternoon, dropping a 6-0 decision to the College of William and Mary at the Old Dominion Sports Complex.  With the loss, the Lancers fall to 2-4 on the season and the Tribe moves to 3-1.

Longwood came out strong in the first half, but couldn’t contain William and Mary, as four different Monarchs scored.

“We played the first 30-35 minutes really well.  We were disciplined, we were organized.  We did what we needed to do  until 10 minutes left in the first half.  It was in the second half that we gave the game away.”

Longwood split time in the net between freshman Justin Brock (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who had two saves, and sophomore Bryan Sanford (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) who was credited with one save.  Senior forward Mark Connelly (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) led the Lancers with two shots, followed by senior midfielder Shawn Spillman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) with one.

The Lancers will play their second game of the tournament against host sixth-ranked Old Dominion Sunday at 2:30 p.m..
