Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 In Overtime At #17 Tusculum

BOX SCORE

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Longwood University dropped a disappointing 2-1 women’s collegiate soccer decision in overtime at #17 Tusculum College Tuesday in Tennessee. The nationally-ranked Pioneers notched the game-winning goal just 1:26 into the extra period on a 30-yard cross that found its way into the net. Longwood is now 4-3-1 after seeing its win-streak stopped at three-straight while Tusculum improved to 7-2. Longwood will play again Saturday, Oct. 4, hosting Pfeiffer University beginning at 5 p.m. on Lancer Field.

In Tennessee, sophomore Tiffany Rice/Virginia Beach (Kellam) gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead at the intermission with her second goal of the season, unassisted, at 13:03. Tusculum responded with the game-tying goal at 58:03 by Rachel Barron, assisted by Elaine Green. Green later added the decisive OT goal at 91:26, unassisted. The Lancers had the first scoring opportunity in overtime, however the shot attempt bounced off both the crossbar and post of the net.

The Pioneers took a 13-5 advantage in shots against Longwood, and a 3-1 edge in corner-kick opportunities. Junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played the entire match in goal for the Lancers with five saves, including a rare stop of a penalty-kick attempt by the hosts late in regulation. Tusculum split time in goal between Danielle Parliament and Meghan Laue, though neither made a save.
