SALEM, Va. -- Longwood University took a 1-0 women’s collegiate soccer triumph on the road Sunday at Roanoke College as sophomore Tiffany Rice/Virginia Beach (Kellam) scored the game’s only goal in the first half. The Lancers won their second-straight contest and improved their record to 3-2-1 while Roanoke dropped to 5-4. Longwood will play again Saturday, Sept. 27, hosting Christopher Newport University at 7 p.m. on Lancer Field.

At Roanoke, Rice tallied her first goal of the season unassisted in the opening half at 13:20 for Longwood. The Lancers took an 11-7 advantage in shots against the Maroons, and a 7-1 edge in corner-kick opportunities. Junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played all 90 minutes in front of the net to preserve her third consecutive shutout. Roanoke’s Jess Simmers had two saves for the hosts.
