Longwood Ties Division I Liberty 0-0 In Double-Overtime

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Longwood University battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at NCAA Division I Liberty University in women’s soccer action on the road Saturday in Lynchburg. The Lancers are now 1-2-1 this season while Liberty is now 0-4-1. Longwood will play again this Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Barton College in North Carolina at 2 p.m..

At Liberty, the Lancers and Flames played through 90 minutes of regulation and an additional 20 minutes of overtime (two 10-minute periods) with neither team able to dent the scoreboard. Longwood’s best scoring opportunity was a shot that went just wide of the far post when senior Phoebe Munson/Virginia Beach (Tallwood) beat the host keeper.

Longwood junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) made six saves as Liberty took a 7-2 shot-advantage, with each team getting two corner-kick opportunities apiece. Flames’ keeper Natalie Mayer had one save.
