NEW MARKET, Va. -- Longwood University totaled 119 points to finish fifth among six teams at the JMU Cross Country Invite Saturday in New Market. NCAA Division I host James Madison University won the scheduled 5K event with 18 points, including the top three overall finishers.

Junior Lynette Robinson/Mineral (Louisa Co.) led Longwood with her time of 22:14 to place 20th among the 59 runners overall. Other Lancer runners included classmate Jessica Walton/Williamsburg (Jamestown) (22:17, 21st), senior Kristel Moser/Roanoke (Northside) (22:27, 23rd), juniors Tiffany Denby/Charlottesville (Monticello) (23:28, 36th) and Holly Miller/Newport News (Woodside) (24:36, 45th), along with graduate student Theresa Bridge/Farmville (Prince Edward Co.) (25:26, 50th). The course actually measured about 3.3 miles, instead of 3.1.

The Lancers return to action next Friday, Sept. 26, at the Maymont Festival in Richmond.
