NEW MARKET, Va. -- Longwood University was among six men’s teams at the JMU Cross Country Invite Saturday in New Market. NCAA Division I host James Madison University won the 8K event with 21 points, including three of the top four overall finishers. The Lancers had just four individual finishers and did not post a team score.
Freshman Keith Smith/Powhatan (Powhatan Co.) again led Longwood with his time of 29:45 to place 33rd among the 54 runners overall. Other Lancer runners included classmate Chris Gibbs/Richmond (L.C. Bird) (30:41, 36th), sophomore John Lampkins/Chesapeake (Western Branch) (34:18, 49th), along with freshman Deo Smith/ Bridgeport, Conn. (Kolbe Cathedral) (42:24, 53rd). Gibbs and Lampkins each ran personal-bests for the fall season.
Longwood will return to action next Friday, Sept. 26, at the Maymont Festival in Richmond.
