KENNESAW, Ga. -- Longwood University dropped a disappointinig 6-1 women’s collegiate soccer decision at NCAA Division II’s nationally-ranked #2 Kennesaw State University Sunday in Georgia. The Lancers record is now 7-4-1, while the Owls improved to 11-1-0.
At #2 Kennesaw State, freshman Kelsie Bradberry/Richmond (Monacan) scored her fourth goal of the season in the first half at 18:43, assisted by classmate Tiffany Crane/Virginia Beach (Kellam), to move the Lancers into a 1-1 tie. Longwood battled the Owls tough during the first 45 minutes and trailed just 2-1 at the intermission. Bradberry’s four goals this fall are tied for the team-lead, while Crane leads the team with five assists. Everything went the way of the hosts in the second half as KSU pulled away for the convincing home victory.
Kennesaw State took a 24-3 advantage in shots against the Lancers, though the corner-kick opportunities were tied at 6-6. Junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played the first 70 minutes in front of the net for the Lancers with six saves, allowing four goals -- one on a penalty-kick attempt. Freshman keeper Heather Storrie/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) played the final 20 minutes in goal with one save, allowing two goals. Owl keeper Jessica Marek played the entire match.
Longwood will play again this Thursday, Oct. 16, on the road again at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
