MORROW, Ga. -- Longwood University took a 3-0 women’s collegiate soccer triumph at Clayton College & State University Saturday evening in Georgia. The Lancers posted their seventh shutout of the season while winning for the sixth time in seven games to improve their record to 7-3-1. The Lakers dropped to 0-9-1. Longwood will remain in Georgia and play again Sunday (Oct. 12) at nationally-ranked #2 Kennesaw State University (10-1).
At Clayton State, freshman Kelsie Bradberry/Richmond (Monacan) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first half at 9:14, unassisted, and the Lancers led 1-0 at the intermission. Classmate Tiffany Crane/Virginia Beach (Kellam) added a goal in the second half at 73:00, also unassisted. Junior Christine Clay/Amelia (Amelia Co.) tallied a final late goal at 83:29, again unassisted.
Longwood took a 28-6 advantage in shots against the Lakers, and had a 3-1 edge in corner-kick opportunities. Junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played the entire match in front of the net for the Lancers with four saves to preserve her sixth shutout. Clayton State keeper Judith Chime had 12 saves.
