Bank of the James Park

The home of the five-time Big South champion Longwood softball team, Bank of the James Park opened on the south end of campus in February 2007 next to the Moton Museum. Formerly Lancer Field, the facility was rededicated Bank as the James Park on April 18, 2025 prior to a game against Charleston Southern. Longwood and Bank of the James announced a 10-year partnership in February which includes naming rights of the stadium and support of women's sports initatives at the university.

Bank of the James Park, which hosted the 2017 and 2022 Big South tournaments, is one of the finest intercollegiate softball facilities in Virginia, and seats approximately 300 with an air-conditioned press box, full field drainage, an automatic sprinkler system, in-ground dugouts, new padding and fencing, new permanent lighting, warning track and a batting cage. The dugouts at the facility are built with a natural wood grain finish, restroom, bat rack, and water fountain. The field dimensions are 200 feet down the left and right field lines, and 220 to straightaway center field. A 2,200-square-foot clubhouse and locker-room facility, auxiliary training facility, and public restrooms were completed during summer 2008.

Since opening in the spring of 2007, Longwood softball has enjoyed one of the best home-field records with a 261-88 (.748) mark overall, going 165-61 (.730) mark since joining the Big South Conference in 2013.

During the Bank of the James Park era, the Lancers have never finished below .500 in a single season at home and have been above the .600 mark in 16 of 19 seasons.

Since moving to Bank of the James Park, NCAA Division I and the Big South Conference, Longwood softball has been elevated among the top programs in the commonwealth and across the nation among mid-major schools. Since the start of 2013, Longwood has set numerous records inside the Big South including becoming the first team to appear in back-to-back NCAA regional championship games and the first team to win five NCAA tournament games in three seasons.
