Mark Egner

Mark Egner is in his second year at Longwood University during 2014-15, beginning employment on July 10, 2013. He is responsible for recruiting, training and individual sessions, as well as scouting/team analysis. Egner arrived at Longwood following three years as the head of hockey at Notre Dame Des Missions Secondary School in Dublin, Ireland. He also served as head coach for Munster Regional U18 (202-13) and for Fermoy Ladies HC (12-13) prior to joining the Lancers’ staff.

At Notre Dame Des Missions, Egner was responsible for coordinating all aspects of the school’s field hockey program, including the selection of six squads, development and management of coaches, organization of transportation for road games and interaction with parents and staff. As the head coach for Munster Regional, he planned and led all trials and training sessions, oversaw a group of assistants and selected teams of athletes in preparation for competition. During his time with Fermoy, he handled all aspects of the club team, such as planning training sessions, and developing and integrating young players into senior squads.

Egner also has experience working at the national level. He was the video analyst for the 2012 Ireland Senior National Team that earned a third-place finish at the 2012 Champions Challenge. In addition, he was an assistant coach for Ireland’s U18 squad in 2010-11. Egner’s coaching achievements also include leading Railway Union to the 2010-11 Irish Junior Cup title. He received his IHA Level 2 Coaching Qualification in 2010 after earning his IHA Goalkeeping Level 1 Qualification in 2009 and his Level 1 Coaching Qualification in 2008.

In addition to his coaching experience, Egner also possesses a wealth of experience as a schoolteacher. He most recently taught at Templebreedy NS (2012-13) following a stint at Griffith Barracks MDNS (2011-12), where he worked as a resource teacher and provided one-on-one lessons for children with specific learning needs.

A native of Cork, Ireland, Egner graduated from Trinity College in Dublin.
