The Office of Student-Athlete Academic Services proudly recognizes student-athletes, cheerleaders and athletic training students each academic year for their outstanding academic performance and citizen leadership at the Annual Academic Awards Banquet and Athletic Awards Banquet.
Awards presently annually by the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Service include:
Scholar-Athlete Award – presented to student-athletes that achieve a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher during the previous two semesters (i.e. Fall & Spring); the award is based on fall semester academic performance for freshmen and new transfer students.
Cormier Award for Academic Excellence - presented to the team with the highest semester team GPA each academic term in honor of Dr. Patricia Cormier (President, 1996-2010).
Jimmy Yarbrough Inspiration Award - Presented annually to the student-athlete that exemplifies the qualities that Jimmy Yarbrough possessed and left as a legacy for Longwood University, through his unprecedented service to providing educational opportunities to young men and women.
A.C.E.S. (Acclaimed Commitment to the Excellence of Student-Athletes) Award – presented by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to a Longwood faculty/staff member or administrator that is active in their efforts to enhance student-athlete welfare and excellence. The recipient will exemplify integrity, excellence, dedication, advocacy, leadership, motivation, fairness, and enthusiasm.
Lancer All-Academic Team – presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the fall term on each team, cheerleading squad and athletic training staff. Also, presented to one coach that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the academic pursuits of his/her team.
Academic PRIDE Award - is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete that demonstrate tremendous work ethic towards his/her academic pursuits. This award does not give regard to GPA or other numeric qualifications, but focuses on a student-athlete’s effort, attitude, perseverance, respect, modeling, and excellence, the epitome of our core values.
Outstanding Service Award – is presented to one male or one female student-athlete that goes above and beyond and has positively impacted his/her college, Longwood University, the surrounding community or the world through his/her service.
