FARMVILLE, Va. - The Lancers head into this week after opening Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) action against NJIT. Longwood defeated the Highlanders in style on October 4, posting a 4-1 victory in front of the home crowd. Four different Lancers recorded goals including the teams leading scorer Harvey Headley. Headley was joined by Kevin Chico, Chris Saul and Brian Germain. The goals scored by Germain and Saul were their firsts of the season.
Earlier in the week, Longwood faced off with Radford, falling 1-0. Longwood was in control of the game, as they have been most of the season, but were unable to sink their chances. Freshman Joel Helmick made his return to the Lancers lineup against Radford, coming up with four saves, while playing all 90 minutes. In the teams victory over NJIT, Helmick was the leader in the back, organizing the defense that only allowed 12 Highlander shots.

QUOTABLE:?
Head Coach Jon Atkinson on last week: Could have been a great week for the program to push the program forward but we threw one away against Radford. The only difference from the Radford and the NJIT games were the fact we converted our chances against NJIT. We know we are able to create chances in every game and the challenge has always been to be composed and apply the right finish when it matters. Against Radford I thought we competed well against a hard working and high tempo Radford outfit, maybe on reflection we should have done a better job of controlling the tempo but all in all we had good passages of play and 25 shots and were only able to get 3 on frame. NJIT result was a welcome one as it not only marked our return to campus but also our first conference game so it was particularly pleasing to get the result in front of the home fans who came out and supported us very well.
Atkinson on this week: Our trip to Navy should bring about a good experience as their campus is a great set up and one for the boys to enjoy. The game promises to be a hard fought game on the road and will test our program as they are always a willing and hard working outfit. After that we welcome a rest and that should buy us some time to rest the bodies and get some lads healthy.
