STAUNTON, Va. – Longwood relief pitcher
Devin Gould has been added to the Valley Baseball League All-Star roster for the North-South All-Star Game Sunday, July 12, at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
Â
Gould, a 6-3, 185-pound right-hander from Fairfax Station, Va., has served as the closer for the Staunton Braves in the summer collegiate league and owns a 3-0 record, four saves, a 1.58 ERA, 12 strikeouts and just four walks across 11.1 innings. He will join the league's South All-Star roster and will play in front of a crowd that is expected to include scouts from all 30 Major League Baseball organizations.
Â
Gould, who is taking the place of injured Staunton teammate Garrett Ring in the Valley All-Star Game, has been nearly unhittable over his past 9.1 innings for the Braves, scattering one run and six hits during that span. His dominance at the back of the bullpen has helped Staunton to a 19-10 record in the first half of the summer, good for the second-best record in the Valley League and second place in the North Division behind only the 23-8 Harrisonburg Turks.
Â
Gould's strong summer comes on the heels of a sophomore season at Longwood in which he went 1-0 with a team-high three saves and a 5.45 ERA across 33.0 innings of work. He made 19 appearances on the mound, including a pair of starts, while striking out 35 batters and giving up just one home run all season. For his two-year career, Gould is 2-2 with five saves, a 4.50 ERA, 80 strikeouts and 49 walks over 74.0 innings.
