CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Longwood University softball team's series finale at Big South Conference opponent Charleston Southern University (13-16-1, 2-3) was suspended in the first inning due to rain. The game will not be made up. Longwood (13-5, 2-0) will return home to host in-state and Big South rival Liberty University in a three-game series on Tuesday-Wednesday, March 18-19.
In the top of the first,
Megan Baltzell/Stafford reached on an error in the leadoff position for Longwood before stealing second with two outs and advancing to third on the mishandled throw. Heavy rain ensued and the game went into a rain delay. After a 40 minute delay, the tarp was pulled and Charleston Southern attempted to salvage the field conditions, but as the rain continued, the officials were forced to call it off.
