ROCK HILL, S.C. – Longwood University junior
Edward Becker/Sydney, Australia has been named to the 2013 Big South Conference Men's Tennis All-Academic Team, as announced by the league at its annual banquet on Wednesday evening on the campus of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Fernando Guillen of Campbell University garnered Big South Player of the Year honors, while Winthrop's Ivar Aramburu was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year and Coastal Carolina's Chris Powers earned Coach of the Year based on a vote by the league's nine head coaches. Jorge Azuero of Liberty was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Big South member institutions' sports information directors.
Becker finished his 2013 spring campaign with a 3-16 overall singles record, playing 16 of his 19 matches in the No. 3 position. The junior also closed the year with a 4-13 doubles record, going 3-7 with partner
Daniel Elston in the #1 position and 1-6 with
Harry Kelleher at #2. Becker is majoring in exercise science and has compiled a 3.698 cumulative GPA. Last season, Becker earned the Longwood Scholar-Athlete Award and was a Longwood All-Academic Team honoree, as well.
