FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University men's and women's tennis head coach
Jakob Gustafsson has announced the addition of Tobias Fanselow as the men's and women's tennis assistant coach. Fanselow is a 2011 graduate of Old Dominion University where he earned numerous honors while a student-athlete on the Monarch's tennis team, including his most recent and highest accolade as the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year.
“I am very excited to get to work with Toby here at Longwood,” said Gustafsson. “He comes from a very successful collegiate playing career, and he knows what it takes to win at this level. His maturity and excitement about coaching is definitely something that will reflect on our student-athletes in a positive way, and I can't wait to get the year started.”
Fanselow participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament, and was a three-time All-CAA First-Team honoree in singles. He gleaned the same honor in doubles during both the 2009 and 2011 seasons. A three-year team captain, Fanselow was named the team's MVP back-to-back years as a junior and senior and was ranked as high as No. 80 in Division I. He served as a coach for ODU summer tennis camps during 2008, 2009, and 2011.
Fanselow is a a native of Barcelona, Spain, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from ODU. He is also fluent in three languages: Spanish, English and German.
