FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University will be hosting the 54-hole Manor Intercollegiate men's golf tournament September 13-14 at The Manor Resort Golf Club. The two-day event opens the 2010-11 campaign and features a field of nine schools, including the host Lancers along with High Point, Loyola (Md.), Mount St. Mary's, North Carolina Central, Hampton, Winston-Salem State, Bluefield, and Hampden-Sydney as well as individuals from Longwood, Virginia, and Liberty. The Manor Intercollegiate at The Manor Resort is open to the public with free admission.

“As always, we're extremely pleased to host our tournament at The Manor Resort,” said 14th-year Longwood head coach Kevin Fillman. “It's a great way for our golf team to start the season. We've played a number of team qualifying rounds at The Manor thus far, so, hopefully, we're ready to play well.”

The Manor Resort Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course that opened in June 2006 and features bent grass greens, fairways, and tees. The Manor will play 7,214 yards, par 72 during the event. It was chosen as one of the 'Best New Golf Courses of 2007' by Golf Digest Magazine.

The schedule of events will include practice rounds for the participating schools on Sunday, September 12, a 36-hole opening day of collegiate golf will take place on Monday, September 13, beginning at 8:30 a.m. before the final round on Tuesday, September 14, starting at 8:30 a.m. as well. An awards ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday when competition is completed at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Longwood finished as runners-up to Gardner-Webb (876) last year, posting a score of 291-294-300--885. The Lancers own the 54-hole tournament-record score of 864 (287-283-294), which they posted en route to winning the 2008 Manor Intercollegiate. Longwood completed its 2009-10 season with a team scoring average of 299.6 while winning one tournament among its eight top 10 team finishes in 11 tournament competitions with a runners-up finish as well. The Lancers return six lettermen and have added two newcomers for the upcoming campaign.

Seniors Michael Young|Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) and Jed Rasnick|Roanoke (Lord Botetourt) will lead Longwood into action, along with juniors Bobby Fox|South Riding (Xavier, Conn.-Sonoma State), Austin Gray|Midlothian (Monacan), Kenny Leech|Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep), and Ross Sumner|Callao (Northumberland), as well as freshmen Kyle Bodin|Austin, Texas (McNeil) and Dylan Jensen|Martinsville (Carlisle School). Young averaged a team-best 74.66 a year ago, and enters his final season with a career average of 74.40 which ranks third-best all-time. Following Young last year were Fox (75.03), Gray (75.92), Sumner (77.88), Leech (79.13), and Rasnick (79.40).

This is the fifth consecutive year that Longwood and The Manor Resort have joined together to host this event.
