STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Longwood University posted a 54-hole score of 313-306-290--909 in men's golf to finish fifth among 14 teams Sunday at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University at the Penn State Blue Golf Course in State College, Pennsylvania. Host Penn State won the tournament with its 291-299-289--879 at the 7,214-yard, par 71 layout, while PSU's Kevin Foley took individual medalist honors with his 70-72-69--211. Longwood will complete its season May 1-2 at the Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia at the Birdwood Golf Course near Charlottesville.
Longwood was led by senior
Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) with his 77-76-70--290 that tied for ninth in the field of 78 golfers. Webb was followed by junior
Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Trafalgar) (79-77-71--227, t-19th), along with sophomores
Bobby Fox/South Riding (Xavier, Conn.) (81-75-73--229, t-27th),
Ross Sumner/Callao (Northumberland) (77-78-76--231, t-32nd), and
Kenny Leech/Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (80-80-78--238, t-55th).
The Lancers' final round of 290 was the second-best team round of the day and the tournament. Young finished the two-day, three-round event tied for fourth in par 5 scoring (4.78, -2), while Webb and Sumner each tied for fifth in par 4 scoring (4.15, +5), and Sumner also tied for 12th in pars (32).
Penn State was followed in the team standings by Towson (899), Ohio University (902), Bowling Green State (906), and Longwood (909) rounding out the top five teams.
