FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's tennis team topped Winston-Salem State University 4-0 on Thursday afternoon on the first day of the Independent Tournament on Lancer Courts in Farmville. Longwood swept the doubles point and won three singles matches for the win. The Lancers (9-9) return to action on Friday, April 16, when they face the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. and North Carolina Central University at 5 p.m. on Lancer Courts in Farmville for the second day of the three-day round robin tournament. Longwood wraps up the tournament when it faces Seattle University on Saturday, April 17, at 8:30 a.m..
In singles action, senior
Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) won at #3 (6-1, 6-0), freshman
Bruno Orlandini/Araraquara, Brazil (E.E.B.A Araraquara) was victorious at #5 (6-0, 6-0) and senior
Andres Lazarte/Lima, Peru (Santa Rosa de Lima) won at #6 (6-2, 6-0). Sophomore
Nobu Tanaka/Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) led at #1 (6-3), freshman
Marc Ferrigno/Hvidovre, Denmark (Brondby Gymnasium) was ahead at #2 (6-0, 5-0) and senior
David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) never started his match at #4.
In doubles competition, Ferrigno and Heird won at #1 (8-2), Tanaka and Cardoso were victorious at #2 (8-1) and junior
