EDINBURG, Texas - Longwood University dropped its first women's tennis match at the National Independent Tournament as it fell to the University of Texas-Pan American 4-0 on Friday afternoon in Edinburg, Texas. The Lancers fell to 4-10 while UTPA improved to 3-13. Longwood returns to the court on Saturday, April 18, facing Seattle University at 9 a.m. and New Jersey Institute of Technology at 2 p.m.

The Lancers dropped three singles' flights. freshman Jackie Esguerra/Sauk City, Wis. (Prairie du Sac High) fell at #3 (0-6, 4-6), senior Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) lost at #5 (1-6, 2-6) and sophomore Nasim Moadab/Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) fell at #6 (2-6, 0-6). Junior Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) trailed at #1 (3-6, 1-0, unfinished), sophomore Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) was behind at #2 (4-6, 2-2, unfinished) and junior Mason Davis/Richmond (Collegiate) trailed at #4 (1-6, 4-3, unfinished).

Longwood dropped the doubles point as well. Jakab and Simon fell at #1 (7-9) and Moadab and Esguerra lost at #3 (1-8). Davis and Melson were tied at #2 (8-8 unfinished).
