Charleston, S.C. – Longwood University dropped a 4-3 nail biter to The Citadel in men's tennis on Friday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel. The Lancers fall to 4-4 on the season while The Citadel improves to 3-3. Longwood returns to action on March 17 at the University of Richmond.
Longwood claimed three singles points and just missed out on the doubles point. Freshman
Nobu Tanaka/Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) claimed a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 decision over Josh Cook at #4, improving to 7-1 on the season. Junior
Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) picked up the win over Derek Dickey, 6-4, 7-6, 8-6 at #5. Sophomore
Milo Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) earned the other singles point for the Lancers, defeating Frank Larkin 6-3, 6-2 at #6.
Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) and
David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) defeated James King and Cook at #2 doubles, 8-4. Heird and Barajas-Alexander dropped an 8-9 decision to Michael Kociecki and Yufo Sutantio at #1 doubles while
Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) and Tanaka fell at the #3 doubles, 6-8.
In the other singles matches, Garcia de Andoain fell at #1 (3-6, 7-6, 0-6), Lindsley lost at #2 (6-7, 4-6) and Cardoso fell at #3 (2-6, 5-7)
