LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Longwood University dropped a 7-1 college softball decision to Hawaii-Hilo Saturday in its final game of the Las Vegas Classic in Nevada. The Lancers, who opened their 2004 campaign at the tournament, closed-out the event with a 1-5 record.
Against Hawaii-Hilo (5-1), Longwood trailed 7-0 through six innings after the Vulcans registered two runs in the second and five runs in the fifth. Junior Jen Steele/Manassas Park (Manassas Park) hit a solo home run – her first of the season – in the seventh inning to give Longwood its lone run of the game. Sophomore-transfer Tori Flint/Charlottesville (Albemarle) led the Lancers for the second time on Saturday, getting two hits in three at-bats with one double. Steele (1-3) got the loss on the mound.
