LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Longwood University fell 10-3 in collegiate softball action to Pittsburg State Friday at the Las Vegas Classic in Nevada. With the loss, the Lancers drop to 0-4 on the season. The Lancers are scheduled to return to action Saturday as they take on Barry (Fla.) at 5 p.m., following by Hawaii-Hilo at 6 p.m.
Against Pittsburg State, the Gorillas got on the board first, posting four runs in the opening inning. The Lancers answered in the second inning, scoring two of their three runs of the ballgame. However, Pittsburg State quickly retaliated with two runs of its own in same inning. Longwood posted another run in the fourth, but the Gorillas proved to be too much for the Lancers to handle. Sophomore Mallory Gordon/Powhatan (Powhatan County) led Longwood, as she went 2-3 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs, while sophomore Shamana Washington/Rhoadesville (Orange County) also went 2-3. Junior Jen Steele/Manassas Park (Manassas Park) (0-2) took the pitching loss.
