LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Longwood dropped its first collegiate softball game of the 2004 campaign, falling 4-3 to BYU-Hawaii at the Las Vegas Classic in Nevada. The Lancers were scheduled to play next against Pittsburg State at 4 p.m..
Against BYU-Hawaii (2-1), the Lancers fell behind 2-0 after three innings of play before getting on the board in the top half of the fourth. The Seasiders quickly added all the runs they would need (2) in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win. Sophomore Shamana Washington/Orange (Orange County) paced Longwood with her 3-4 performance at the plate, including a double, while freshman Courtney “Pepper” Wilson/Mechanicsville (Lee-Davis) went 2-4 and junior Megan Camden/Bedford (Liberty) added a home run. Junior Jennifer Steele/Manassas Park (Manassas Park) (0-1) took the loss on the mound after hurling a complete-game.
