PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- St. Joseph’s took a 3-0 victory over visiting Longwood University in a field hockey contest Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa.. The host Hawks (6-4) scored all three goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest, including a goal and two assists by Nicole Antonini. The Lancers (3-7) will be back in action when they face Maryland-Baltimore County, Sunday, October 3. Game time is slated for 1 p.m..
St. Joseph’s scored its first goal 3:30 into the contest when Lauren Luft scored on an assist by Antonini. Antonini then pushed the Hawks lead to 2-0 when she scored a goal of her own at the 9:20 mark. Hilary Moody of St. Joseph’s capped off the scoring for the Hawks, finding the back of the cage at the 12:47 mark on a penalty corner. Both Antonini and Shannon Scott were credited with the assists.
After allowing eight shots in the first half, the Lancers limited the Hawks to five shots in the second half, while they tallied four shots of their own. St. Joseph’s finished the game with the slight 5-3 advantage in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Julie Patterson/Esmont (Monticello) made six saves in the contest for Longwood, including four in the first half.
