RADFORD, Va. – The Longwood University men's tennis team was defeated, 4-0, by No. 67 George Washington University (14-5) in the squad's regular-season finale on Saturday morning. The Lancers (5-14) will return to action Wednesday, April 17, when the squad will play a first round match at the 2013 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship at 1 p.m. in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

In double play, senior Giorgi Khmiadashvili/Tbilisi, Georgia and sophomore Harry Kelleher/Sydney, Australia fell, 8-3, to the 90th-ranked duo of Leonardo Lapentti and Francisco Dias in the #2 position. Freshman James Fudge/Kaarst, Germany and sophomore Steed Johnson/Ahoskie, N.C. followed with an 8-2 loss against Alexander van Gils and Viktor Svensson at #3 to seal the double point. The top doubles match went unfinished, as sophomore Daniel Elston/St. Austell, Cornwall, England and junior Edward Becker/Sydney, Australia were trailing, 3-6, went the outcome of the doubles play was decided.

The Lancers also faced setbacks in the #1, #3 and #6 singles positions. Khmiadashvili fell 6-3, 6-3 in the #1 position, while Becker lost 7-5, 6-0 and Fudge was retired 6-0, 6-2 at #3 and #6, respectively. Elston, Kelleher and Johnson did not finish their respective singles matches, as the outcome was already decided before their sets were completed.
