LEXINGTON, Va. -- Longwood University competed at the VMI Invitational women's cross country race Saturday at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington. There was no team scoring as the individual race winner was Jenna Moye of VMI with her time of 18:35, while the Lancers were led by junior
Alisha Royal|Vinton (William Byrd) with her time of 19:09 over the 5K course to place fourth among 22 competitors. Longwood will run again on September 15 at the JMU Open Invitational in Harrisonburg.
Royal ran the ninth-fastest 5K time in the program's history and now has five of the all-time 10 fastest times for the distance. Following Royal were sophomores
Brittany Foote|Goshen, N.Y. (Goshen) (20:41, 13th) and
Elisabeth Drake|Hayes (Gloucester) (22:35, 19th), seniors
Jenna Sprinkle|Buchanan (James River) (22:37, 20th) and
Rebecca Denny|Virginia Beach (Kempsville) (22:50, 21st), along with freshman
Amelia McConnell|Carlisle, Pa. (Carlisle) (23:02, 22nd).
VMI had four of the top five among five of the top-10 finishers and James Madison took places six through nine.
