FARMVILLE, Va. –
Longwood University junior softball team member Amy Putnam
|Poquoson was named a 2011-12 Division I All-America Scholar-Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on December 6.
“It's wonderful to see Amy recognized for her abilities in the classroom,” said head coach Kathy Riley
. “She is representing Longwood University as a beautiful example of Lancer Pride!”
All-America Scholar-Athlete recipients must have achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year. Thousands of athletes representing over 600 institutions across all three NCAA membership categories were honored with the award.
Putnam, who is majoring in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science, has a 3.77 cumulative GPA and appeared in 12 games last season for the Lancers, taking five at bats and scoring two runs.
Longwood will open its 2013 campaign on February 12 against North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. beginning at 2 p.m.
