Longwood Falls To Le Moyne 16-11

DETROIT, Mich. – The Longwood University women's lacrosse team fell to Le Moyne College 16-11 on Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site matchup in Detroit, Michigan. The Lancers (6-8) were led by junior Morgan Illian/Salisbury, Md. (Parkside) with three goals and two assists. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, April 18, when they face the University of Detroit Mercy at 12 p.m. in Detroit.

The Lancers scored a pair of goals in the first six minutes, one by senior Page Farmer/Richmond (St. Catherine's) and the other by junior Cara O'Brien/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) to take the early 2-0 lead with 24:24 remaining in the first  half. The Dolphins answered with a pair of goals to tie the game. Illian scored her first goal of the game to give Longwood the 3-2 lead with 21:58 remaining in the half. Le Moyne scored two more goals to take the 4-3 lead with 17:13 remaining in the half. Junior Amanda Bereznay/Gwynn Oak, Md. (Setan Keough) scored less than a minute later to tie the game at 4-4 but Le Moyne scored five of the next six goals, including two just six seconds apart, to pull away to a 9-5 lead. Freshman Jamie Brentlinger/Odenton, Md. (Arundel) and junior Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) each scored in the final four minutes of the first half to cut the Longwood deficit to 9-7 at halftime.

Le Moyne struck first in the second half to push the advantage back to three at 10-7. The teams traded goals before Farmer and Illian scored to cut the Le Moyne lead to 11-10 with 15:05 remaining. The Dolphins scored five of the last six goals of the game to win 16-11.

Longwood out-shot Le Moyne 37-25 and had the 22-11 advantage in ground balls. The Lancers went 0-8 on free position shots while the Dolphins were a perfect 4-4. Le Moyne had a 19-10 advantage in draw controls.

Illian led Longwood with three goals and two assists while Farmer scored two goals with two assists. Dean scooped up a team-high four ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Juli Liebig/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) received the loss after giving up nine goals with two saves in 23 minutes. Senior Eliza Coughter/Charlottesville (Charlottesville) had six saves and allowed seven goals in 37 minutes between the pipes.

Le Moyne was led by Michelle Phillips with four goals and two assists while Nerissa Barzee added four goals. Gabrielle Kamide had seven draw controls and Kelly Fucillo had 18 saves in goal.
