FARMVILLE, Va. -- Former Longwood University standout
Jonathan Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) was recently named to the 2009 ECAC Division I Baseball All-Star Second-Team. A catcher, he hit .371 during his recent 2009 senior season with nine home runs, 13 doubles, 47 RBI, 41 runs, a .607 slugging percentage, a .419 on-base percentage, and a .996 fielding percentage. Quigley led the Lancers in home runs, and was among the top five in 13 overall offensive statistical categories with 20 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games. He had a season-best of three nine-game hitting streaks (15-37, .405; 17-33, .515; 17-36, .472), and threw-out 15 of 58 (.259) runners on steal attempts as well.
Quigley recently signed a professional contract to play with the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League on June 25. He made his pro debut on June 28 against the Evansville Otters at the GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois; going 2-3 with a double and an RBI during a 6-5 win for the home team. The Frontier League features 12 teams located in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Longwood finished its 2009 campaign with a final record of 26-22. It marked the 28th winning season in the program’s 32-year history, and the 21st season with at least 25 wins. Veteran head coach Charles ‘Buddy’ Bolding is now 844-457-4 through his 31 years as the mentor of Longwood Baseball.
