FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Director of Athletics Troy Austin has been appointed to a three-year term on the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Executive Committee. This committee explores the mutual problems and opportunities encountered by colleges and universities that participate in NCAA Division I-AAA (non-football playing schools) programs, to facilitate the administration of college and university athletics, and to promote and elevate the standards of athletic administration. Austin’s term will run until June 2012.
“To serve on the I-AAA Executive Committee is a great honor and I am very appreciative of this opportunity,” said Austin. “I look forward to serving on this committee with my fellow administrators.”
Austin is entering his second full year as Longwood’s AD during 2009-10 after serving as the interim AD from August 2006 to April 2008. He served in a critical role as the school completed its final year of NCAA Division I Reclassification during 2006-07. Austin has supervised 14 intercollegiate athletic programs and respective coaching staffs, an administrative support staff, and operation of the Longwood Golf Course over the past three academic years while administering an annual budget of nearly $6 million dollars while developing and implementing marketing strategies to brand the department. Additionally, he has overseen facility capital upgrade projects for basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, field hockey and women’s lacrosse.
A native of Orange, New Jersey, Austin earned his B.A. in sociology, along with a certificate in markets & management from Duke University where he was a four-year football letterman. A team captain as a senior, he earned the William J. Griffith Service Award and was named the team’s Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman. Austin earned his M.S. in sports leadership from the VCU SportsCenter.
